The Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) program is the largest Government of Canada initiative supporting Research & Development in Canada
The objective of the SR&ED Program is to encourage Canadian businesses of all sizes and in all sectors to conduct Research and Development (R&D) in Canada.
SR&ED provides over $4 billion in tax credits annually to approximately 20,000 claimants
Typically ten percent of all SR&ED claims in a given year are new first time claimants
What the program offers:
- Allowable SR&ED expenditures can be used to reduce taxable income for the current year or carried forward indefinitely
- Investment Tax Credits (ITC) which reduce the income taxes payable in the year. The unused balance may be refunded, carried back up to three years, or carried forward up to twenty years.
